Located to the east of the Delaware River and the great state of Pennsylvania lies New Jersey. With both nearly 9 million residents and square miles to its name, New Jersey is the 11th largest state by population. New Jersey received its name from 17th century English colonizers after they took control of the area away from the Dutch and Swedish. After doing so, they named their new territory New Jersey after one of the Channel Islands near the coasts of Normandy, France. The state went on to be one of the thirteen revolutionary states who declared a War of Independence from the British Empire. As such, many important battles of the conflict occurred on New Jersey soil, specifically the crucial battles of Trenton and Princeton.
Today, New Jersey is listed as one of the highest states for median income. The tourism industry is booming in the state, with many world-famous landmarks within its borders. Many visitors head to the renowned Atlantic City to spend time at the many casinos and hotels there. Ocean City Resort, The Borgata, the Hard Rock Hotel, Wild Wild West Casino, can be found along the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Not only that, but Liberty State Park, Turtle Back Zoo, Absecon Lighthouse, the George Washington Bridge, Cape May Lighthouse, Kingda Ka (the tallest roller coaster in all of North America), Newark Museum of Art, the Thomas Edison National Historical Park, and the Pine Barrens can all be found in the great state of New Jersey.
In recent years, New Jersey joined the ranks of the states who've legalized marijuana for medicinal use. Yet, this decision did not come without controversy among the political class and some New Jersey residents. Despite its legalized status, New Jersey's MMJ program is notorious for its strict and rigid implementation, and the slow growth of licensed dispensaries. But the tides are still turning and dozens more dispensaries are on their way to opening their doors in the future.
An initial NuggMD MMJ evaluation is only $149. Required yearly follow-ups cost only $99 thereafter!
New Jersey residents with one of the following medical conditions are eligible to enroll in the state program:
To become a medical marijuana patient in New Jersey, you must apply with the state marijuana registry. Applications can be found on the NJMMP website here.
The fee associated with the New Jersey Medical Marijuana Registry is $100. This is the price for patients and caregivers alike. Nevertheless, medical patients who are seniors, military veterans, and those who can qualify for state and federal assistance only have to pay $20. Those who qualify for the following can receive this reduced price: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program; Supplemental Security Income Benefits; Social Security Disability Benefits; NJ Temporary Disability Insurance benefits; NJ Medicaid Program
Yes, it is possible to receive a refund with NuggMD under the following conditions: if a patient does not receive the documents associated with their medical marijuana recommendation within 30 days after their evaluation, then they will be entitled to a full refund. Be sure to include a brief description of your problem, as well. Our customers here at NuggMD are our #1 priority, and we are always striving to make sure that they are all 100% satisfied with our platform. If not, all will get their money back, guaranteed! You should be aware, though, that as soon as your refund is processed, NuggMD is legally obligated to remove any authorizations for medical marijuana you may have. This means that you will not be able to obtain medical marijuana at a dispensary.
New Jersey cannabis registrations are valid for 2 years after the date of their first issue.
Unlike many states who have legalized medical marijuana, New Jersey's legislation does not mandate any explicit legal protections for employees. This means that if a workplace demands a drug-free environment, their employees must comply, even if they're registered medical marijuana patients. Employers are still within their rights to fire such individuals if they so choose.
At this time, patients are not provided with temporary IDs. After being approved for medical use, all patients will receive their permanent ID in 7-10 days.
No, medical marijuana patients in New Jersey are not placed on any government lists when they register as patients. In fact, information regarding a patients' status is not available to anyone but the New Jersey Medical Marijuana Program and the Department of Health.
It is possible to become a New Jersey MMJ patient without an NJ ID. However, you still must provide two forms of proof of residency during your application, both of which need to include your current address. New Jersey will accept the following as these forms of proof of residency:
Yes, New Jersey does impose a possession limit on its medical patients. The MMJ program mandates that all cannabis sold must be sold in packages of 1/4 or 1/8 ounce amounts. Patients will receive a specific dosage amount from their marijuana physician during their evaluations. At this time, patients are not allowed to possess more than 3 ounces of cannabis in 30 days. This is not the case, however, for terminally ill patients who do not have a possession limit of any kind.
The process of registering as a New Jersey caregiver is not all that different from a normal medical patient. Caregivers must apply with the NJMMP. If the applicant is not an immediate family member of the medical patient, they must pass a criminal background check to be approved. All the associated forms for caregivers can be found on the NJMMP website. You can also find information on their site regarding instructions on how to book an appointment with the criminal background service IdentoGo to collect your fingerprints. Keep in mind, it can take up to three weeks for this background check to be processed. Once approved, caregivers must pay the associated fee with their application.
New Jersey medical patients must wait up to 30 days for their medical marijuana applications to be processed. Most patients find that their applications are processed in about 7 - 10 days, with their MMJ IDs being mailed shortly after.
No, currently no New Jersey medical marijuana dispensaries are licensed to provide cannabis delivery services. However, the state has recently received applications from four dispensaries to provide delivery services.
Not yet. But this is set to change, as there are plans in place for a new medical marijuana commission that will be used to accept MMJ IDs from other states.
New Jersey's medical marijuana legislation mandates that the smoking of marijuana must comply with the Smoke-Free Air Act. This previous legislation dictates the following: Medical marijuana patients are not legally allowed to smoke cannabis:
*Inside of a school bus Inside of any public transportation vehicle.
*Inside of a motor vehicle, except in those cases in which the vehicle is not in operation.
*On the campus of any school.
*On the property of any correctional institution.
*Within any public park, beach, or recreational grounds.
*Any other area listed under N.J.S.A. 2C:33-13.
Medical marijuana patients also are not able to operate, navigate, or otherwise pilot any vehicle, vessel, train, subway, or any other form of heavy machinery while being under the influence of medicinal cannabis.
Sometimes. If a New Jersey resident happens to be on parole or probation, but also qualifies for the state program nothing is stopping them from enrolling. They would still be allowed to use medical marijuana, despite their legal status. Nevertheless, these patients should still talk about becoming a patient with their parole or probation officers, as some sentencing agreements may require them to abstain from drug use, including medical marijuana, and violation of parole can lead to more jail time.
Many states who have legalized medical marijuana included legal protections for parents who are also medical marijuana patients. New Jersey's Compassionate Use of Medical Marijuana did not include these legal protections. This may change in the future, nor does it necessarily mean medical marijuana patients will be discriminated against in family courtrooms. IF the topic of medical marijuana use does come up, is usually focused on how a parent consumes or stores their medical marijuana. Parents who are medical marijuana patients must always be responsible with their cannabis, else their fitness as a parent be called into question.
If a parent consumes medicinal cannabis in the presence of their children, for example, a judge may view this as unfit for a parent, and it could affect their custody rights. Even second-hand smoke can't be inhaled by children under any circumstances. It goes without saying that medical marijuana patients cannot give their children cannabis. To do so would constitute child abuse.
If you have any concerns about using medical marijuana as a parent, you should talk to a qualified attorney to ensure you're not putting your parental rights in danger.
Unfortunately, no, there is currently no subsidized marijuana program in New Jersey. However, a discounted registration is available for patients in need.
Yes, New Jersey does impose a sales tax on all marijuana sales. This was first set at 6.625% but was recently reduced to 4%. Soon enough, it will be reduced further to 2% before finally being phased out completely in 2022. While this applies to a state-wide sales tax, local cities and towns still can charge 2% on the sales within their jurisdictions.
New Jersey has several medical dispensaries that are licensed to sell marijuana and marijuana products. Nevertheless, New Jersey's medical program is still relatively new, and there are not as many dispensaries as there are in other states. As time goes on, however, more are scheduled to open their doors. You can find a list of currently licensed Alternative Treatment Center at www.nj.gov/health/medicalmarijuana/patients/find-alt-center/
